Starting out as a community project in 2022 at Lake Wenatchee State Park, the Wenatchee Valley Astronomy Club (WVAC) began its journey by interpreting the night sky for hundreds of campers and locals throughout the summer season. Through the years of presenting to campers, our team wanted to connect more deeply with the community.
With passion, WVAC grew, expanding its programming to the Leavenworth Hatchery and tripling our offerings in just one year. The enthusiasm and dedication of our team have driven this growth, allowing us to reach a larger audience and share the wonders of the night sky with more individuals.
The year 2025 was monumental for WVAC. This year marked our transition from a community project to a fully-fledged astronomy club. We transformed into a club not only for circulating visitors but also for the local community. We initiated member meetings, tabling events, and dark sky advocacy. This transformation allowed us to foster a closer connection with the community and create a space for amateur astronomers to gather and share their passion.
As we look to the future, WVAC continues to expand our efforts and programming. We aim to reach even more members of our community through innovative programs, events, and advocacy. Our goal is to build a robust network of amateur astronomers who are passionate about exploring the night sky and advocating for dark sky preservation.
We invite you to join Wenatchee Valley Astronomy Club and be a part of our growing community. Whether you are a seasoned astronomer or a curious beginner, WVAC offers a welcoming environment where you can learn, share, and connect with others who share your passion for the night sky.
Together, let's look up and discover the wonders of the universe, connect with our heritage, and advocate for the preservation of our dark skies. WVAC is more than just an astronomy club; it's a community dedicated to exploration, education, and preservation.

Charlie Lee has been a proud resident of Leavenworth, Washington since 2011, where he lives with his family. Originally from Houston, Texas, Charlie deeply appreciates the stark contrast between the busy, sprawling city he grew up in and the stunning, small-town charm of Leavenworth. When not exploring the night sky, he can often be found enjoying the Wenatchee River or gravel biking the surrounding forest roads.
Charlie discovered his passion for backyard astronomy during the early days of the pandemic, sharing the experience with his son. He finds joy in visual astronomy—connecting directly with the telescope, the night air, and the ancient starlight that has traveled across vast cosmic distances to reach Earth. For Charlie, each night under the stars is a reminder of both the enormity of the universe and the beauty of experiencing it together with family, friends, and the local community.
