How to Join

WVAC is currently undergoing member meetings to formalize the structure and organization of the club. While we are an active club, currently we are a community project with a mission to become a non-profit. 

Join us at our free public events and introduce yourself to our outreach team. We would love to know the community we strive to support and connect with.

The emphasis of this club is:

Anyone can be a member, everyone can help connect others to astronomy; astronomy is for sharing. If you just started to looking up at the night sky or walked on the moon, and you want to help, join our crew and we can begin the cosmic journey together. We are a diverse group, from early-beginners to laser physics majors, and we all have a passion to learn and connect with our community and our natural heritage, the night sky.

What the Future Holds

When we do become a 501c(3) non-profit organization we will collect membership dues. While we will strive to keep the dues as low as possible through donations offset, we expect the amount to be $45/year/person. However, with this non-profit status we will be able to provide much more benefits.

• Ability to accept donations during public programs.

• Ability to apply for grants.

• Ability to purchase telescopes and items for members and public outreach.

• Ability to work with school groups and impact our future scientists. 

• Ability to make a lasting impact within the community through dark sky advocacy.

• Ability to install SQMs throughout the valley to quantify light pollution.

• Ability to offset membership dues through club funds.

• Ability to purchase brochures and other literature for tabling events.

• Ability to purchase club items to embolden our professionalism.

• Ability to purchase liability insurance so we can do all of the above.
